March Theme: Awaken Gently

For guidance on this year-long, themed practice, visit the 2026 Class Themes: A Journey Around the Sun blog

Om Suryaya Namaha.

We greet and honor that which awakens, energizes, and gently calls us into action.

First Week’s Contemplation

That moment. Just before the rays of the sun start to emerge from the horizon. The song of birds waking up. The earth is beginning to stir. It’s a soft awakening. Rise. Listen. Listen deeply. Listen from the quietest space within you. The sun is gently awakening Earth. And Earth is singing her lessons. Listen, and you will learn…

Earth Teach Me to Remember

by John Yellow Lark

Earth, teach me stillness

as the grasses are stilled with light.

Earth, teach me suffering

as old stones suffer with memory.

Earth, teach me humility

as blossoms are humble with beginning.

Earth, teach me caring

as the mother who secures her young.

Earth, teach me courage

as the tree which stands alone.

Earth, teach me limitation

as the ant which crawls on the ground.

Earth, teach me resignation

as the leaves which die in the fall.

Earth, teach me freedom

as the eagle which soars in the sky.

Earth, teach me regeneration

as the seed which rises in the spring.

Earth, teach me to forget myself,

as melted snow forgets its life.

Earth, teach me to remember kindness

as dry fields weep in the rain.

Second Week’s Contemplation

Wake up. To-do list. Eat. Sleep. Repeat.

Wake up. To-do list. Eat. Sleep. Repeat.

Wake up. Wait… there’s something I was supposed to remember. Wake up… Wake up… Breathe. Remember.

That moment when… Aha! Yes! I remember! Breathe. Awaken. Bathe in the light of the sun. Breathe in the light of consciousness. Awaken…

“I see my life as an unfolding set of opportunities to awaken.” ~Ram Dass

Third Week’s Contemplation

That moment. When wisdom touches us, and we begin to hear the call: awaken and live truth.

Poesía Purepecha

En la vida ni se gana, ni se pierde,

ni se fracasa, ni se triunfa.

En la vida se aprende, se crece, se descubre;

se escribe, se borra ye reescribe otra vez;

se hila, se deshila y se vuelve a hilar.

El día que comprendí que lo único que me voy a llevar es lo que vivo,

empecé a vivir lo que me quiero llevar.

Fourth Week’s Contemplation

That moment, when you awaken and realize that all the hopes and prayers that you have sent into the world have been sent to you, too. Maybe you haven’t realized it yet. Perhaps these words, this prayer, will help you awaken to the truth that, deep within our minds and hearts, we vibrate with love and care for one another. Hear this prayer for YOU from a stranger and fellow earth-waker:

Awaken to the mystery of being here and enter the quiet immensity of your own presence.
Have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.
Receive encouragement when new frontiers beckon.
Respond to the call of your gift and the courage to follow its path.
Let the flame of anger free you of all falsity.
May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame.
May anxiety never linger about you.
May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of soul.
Take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention.
Be consoled in the secret symmetry of your soul.
May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder.

by John O’Donohue

Your call to action: remember and keep sharing and receiving love.
