2026 Class Themes: A Journey Around the Sun

This year, while we journey around the sun, it seems fitting to honor the sun’s many gifts and attributes. In yoga and mindfulness, we bring together outer wisdom with our inner wisdom. Therefore, in this yearlong practice, we will honor the attributes of the object of the sun outside of us and solar energy within ourselves. Each month, we will connect with one of the twelve sun mantras and explore words of wisdom that awaken this shared fixed point within and around us.

Look back here each month to revisit the theme and contemplate words of wisdom inspired by our life-providing star, the sun. If you’d like, explore one week at a time, and play with this practice:

  • Sit in a quiet space, light a candle, your own little personal sun.

  • Take 3 deep breaths.

  • Let the body settle. Let the mind settle. Let the heart settle.

  • Choose one week and read the contemplation from that week.

  • Close your eyes, let yourself get really still, and let the gaze rest inward.

  • Let the remnants and echoes of the words roll around in your consciousness. Let them roll through the mind… through the heart… through the body… through the spirit. No need to figure them out. Just watch and see how they land, how they flow, how they feel. Maybe nothing at all happens. Maybe you have a spontaneous spark of inspiration. In any case, stay in the stillness and let the healing wisdom of the sun wash over and through you.

  • Trust that you will know when to return your gaze to your surroundings. Breathe in. Breathe out.
